Azimy's story
1. Studying in Switzerland – Why did you choose Switzerland as a study destination. And how was your experience studying at Les Roches?
The hospitality college in Malaysia I attended offered a twinning program with Switzerland or Australia but since hotel management education began in Switzerland, I decided to choose the former. I had never visited Europe (aside from England) and this was another reason what made Switzerland more appealing than Australia; its location was central to all the major European cities.
Les Roches was a memorable experience and I seemed to fit it quite naturally as the student population was very diverse; having fellow peers from all around the world did not make me stick out like a sore thumb. Due to its rather remote location from the hustle and bustle of the big city, this gave me the opportunity to really focus on my studies and abstain from the distractions of city life.
2. My Program – Which program did you choose and describe in summary overall program about what you learned from the campuses.
I did my final year of degree at Les Roches and came back to Malaysia with a BBA in Hospitality. The Bluche campus of Les Roches had sufficient amenities and facilities to enable you to progress in your education. Being surrounded by students and lecturers from various backgrounds provides an unparalleled learning experience and this was displayed very clearly during group projects where differences in opinions and experiences contributed to an inclusive and holistic project output.
3. My Internship – Where did you do your internships and which one was your best experience out of all?
I had the privilege of doing a 5-month marketing internship with Les Roches after receiving my BBA. I was treated like a real employee and had to conduct job tasks of a marketing assistant. This included tele-marketing, conducting site inspections and photo shoots and coordinating marketing collateral.
4. My Future – What are your goals after graduation? If graduated already – what is your current position and what do you do daily on your job. What do you love most about it, next career move?
I am the General Manager of an arts advocacy agency in Malaysia called My Performing Arts Agency. I joined the organisation in May 2013 as a Program Manager and was promoted to my current role in January 2016. I oversee and execute the projects initiated by the company such as workshops, conferences, arts advocacy programs, etc. I enjoy my job as it is never monotonous, gives numerous access to empowerment, and is free from the rigidity of the corporate world.
