The Hotel School was founded in 1989 as an integral part of InterContinental Sydney with the vision of creating Australia’s best talent in Hospitality.

From the outset, The Hotel School focused on developing future leaders who would also possess the practical skills required to operate a business.

The courses offered at the Hotel School focus on hotel operational skills, management practice in the tourism and hospitality industry and the skills needed for continued learning in a changing global business environment. Students develop into dedicated professionals with qualifications that are recognised and highly regarded internationally.

Internship Opportunities

The Hotel School offers students an opportunity to integrate theory with the practice and responsibility of the professional workplace through our internship program.

Internships are integrated into the Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management and Master of International Tourism and Hotel Management courses. They are a unique part of our degrees, designed to assist in working out which career pathway is best suited to you and to add valuable experience to your career. Internships may be undertaken within Australia or internationally. Students may gain experience in any sector of tourism and hospitality.

Mulpha Internships

A selection of Mulpha-owned properties located in Australia and Internationally offer opportunities to our students undertaking the Professional Hospitality Experience 6-month Internship program.

These Internships have been designed in consultation with these properties, and offer students:

  • the opportunity to gain experience in 2-3 departments during the 6-month program,
  • a dedicated workplace mentor,
  • periodic progress meetings,
  • observation of ‘behind-the-scenes’ management tasks,
  • project work, and
  • (in some locations) a dedicated space on-site for completing the academic requirements.

These properties host our students with the view to continued employment upon successful completion of their Internship program.

1. BACHELOR OF BUSINESS IN HOTEL MANAGEMENT

For over 30 years, The Hotel School has been Australia’s leading hotel management university. The Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management is a Southern Cross University degree which is the ideal starting point for anyone looking to make a career in hospitality-related businesses, focusing on management.

When you study the Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management at The Hotel School you will receive a comprehensive business degree which prepares you to excel in a global career.   Thanks to our well -established connection with industry from the moment you enrol, you will immediately expand your professional network.

You will receive more than an education in the hotel industry, you will receive the foundation required to build a dynamic global career.  Marketing and communications, human resources, finance and entrepreneurship are examples of some of our core subjects.  Additionally, with the option to choose electives in diverse areas you have the flexibility to design a degree which suits your areas of interest.

2. DIPLOMA OF HOTEL MANAGEMENT

Diploma of Hotel Management is now available in a flexible fully online study mode.

Undertaking a Diploma is your chance to engage in a study pathway without committing yourself to a full three year degree. Whether you are a school leaver, already working in the hotel industry or looking to make a career change, this course will develop your skills and enhance your career prospects in a dynamic, global industry.

Delivered at The Hotel School, a unique partnership between Mulpha Australia and Southern Cross University. This course covers theory and practices within the industry, finance, management and communication as well as food, beverage and accommodation operations.

 

3. MASTER OF BUSINESS IN GLOBAL HOTEL LEADERSHIP

Developed in collaboration with AccorHotels, InterContinental Hotels Group and TFE Hotels Group, the Master of Business in Global Hotel Leadership is designed for future leaders in the Hotel, Tourism and Leisure industry with a desire to accelerate their career path.

This course will help participants to develop an advanced level of understanding of hotel operations and the principles behind hotel asset management, service design and delivery systems, operational models and disruptive technologies.

There is also a strong focus on business management and leadership skills to meet the needs of those with an entrepreneurial spirit who want to operate their own business.

The Master of Business in Global Hotel Leadership is a Southern Cross University award that is specifically designed to meet the demands of the fastest growing industry in the world.

4. CERTIFICATE OF BUSINESS IN GLOBAL HOTEL LEADERSHIP

Graduate Certificate of Business in Global Hotel Leadership is now available in a flexible fully online study mode.

The Graduate Certificate of Business in Global Hotel Leadership provides the foundation in the Master of Business in Global Hotel Leadership. You will build upon your current business and hospitality experience and learn to work at a higher level of management on a global scale.

5. GRADUATE DIPLOMA OF BUSINESS IN GLOBAL HOTEL LEADERSHIP

The Graduate Diploma of Business in Global Hotel Leadership is an entry pathway into the Master of Business in Global Hotel Leadership. It provides an introduction to advanced study in contemporary leadership techniques as they apply to the global hotel and hospitality sectors.

The Graduate Diploma of Business in Global Hotel Leadership develops business applied skills to support graduates with their leadership careers in contemporary global hotel industries.

Through an industry-led, applied curriculum, students gain an understanding of relevant theories and concepts and allows them to connect with real world problems and issues through a range of authentic, industry-connected, assessment tasks. These assessments provide an applied context for students’ learning and a pathway for further learning. The curriculum is built on hotel leadership/management principles that enable students to study in their chosen career path within hotel organisations and their specialised departments. It is anticipated that students who successfully complete the Graduate Diploma will move into the Master of Business in Global Hotel Leadership where they will be exposed to a series of higher level, self-management approaches to learning within the hotel context.

 

6. INTERNATIONAL HOTEL & TOURISM MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

The Hotel School is proud to be partnering with HTMi Switzerland and AccorHotels to deliver an Australian industry program which is the first of its kind. HTMi Switzerland is among QS World Ranking’s Top 10 for Employer Reputation and ranked 17 for Hospitality and Leisure Management.

Available in the Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane campus locations it uniquely connects paid internships with AccorHotels and academic studies accredited by Southern Cross University. Upon completion of the iHTMP, students will be eligible to graduate with a Diploma in International Hotel and Tourism Management from HTMi Switzerland. Additionally, students will be eligible for entry into the Bachelor of Business in Hotel Management at The Hotel School with 18 months credit.

  1. Qualification equivalent to an Australian Year 12 with the required entry grade, or relevant work experience
  2. English language proficiency comparable to Academic IELTS 6.0 with no band less than 5.5.

All applicants for The Hotel School are selected on their individual merit. You may be required to attend an interview.

 

2020 Course Fees (Anually): $3,450

Tuition Fees are listed in the Offer of Admission and are correct at the time of issue. They will be subject to an increase each calendar year and students are required to pay the new tuition fee each year. Tuition fees are due at the beginning of each study period, however you can pay fees in advance.

  2. Overall IELTS 5.5 with 5.5 in writing and no other band less than 5.0

  1. Completion of Australian Bachelor degree or equivalent
